I bought my first home when I was 17 years old, worked full time and attended John Wood in the evenings. Before I turned 18, my husband and I bought a 4 unit apartment building and remodeled each unit too. We have since bought multiple more rental properties in residential and commercial.
I married my husband in August of 1999. After 5 years of dating, it was time to start our very hectic life together. We both share a deep passion for Real Estate coming from backgrounds of business ownership and investment properties right here in Quincy.
In 2000, I opened a retail store called “The Attic”, which started as a thrift shop but within 2 years it developed into housing to all Medical Uniforms. worked every day for a few years at building the business into a very successful store offering Quincy and the surrounding area outstanding customer service as well as a selection of uniforms you just cannot find within a 200 mile radius. My Aunt Malinda has worked for me from the beginning and is the operating manager today as I am off exploring other business adventures.
In 2001 I had my first child, Caroline Madison. She is a 1st degree in Black Belt and is working towards her 2nd degree Black Belt. She enjoys hanging out at
The Attic, learning the register and how a business works. My son was born in 2003 and he also just received his 1st degree Black Belt. Bernard
Carl III (Ace for short) is following in Buddy’s footsteps. He helps remodel apartments and takes over driving/operating the tractor when the job requires. Both kids are actively involved in our rental property business.
In 2006, a friend of mine (Janet) and I decided to open Quincy’s first Scrapbook Store (Scrappin It). Within the 1st year we had expanded into the manufacturing side of the industry (Clear Scraps was born) and had moved our 900 sq ft store to 18th & Broadway to a much larger space which housed our backstock of Clear Scraps inventory and became our packaging department. We manufactured Clear Acrylic Albums for the scrapbook industry and within a few months we had a distributors from around the world; and were even featured on QVC in the United Kingdom. We had about 20 sales reps working for us across the US and a Design Team from around the world. As the business developed, sold both companies in 2009 to peruse other dreams. Scrappin It was bought out by a store in St. Louis, and Clear Scraps was sold to a wonderful company already in Acrylic development in Denver, Colorado. Clear Scraps today is still running and is a successful manufacturing/retail company.
In April 2009 I completed my Real Estate Agent License course and received my license to sell Real Estate. With the extensive background knowledge I obtained in the industry through all the years I have been investing, this was the right fit! I feel looking back I traveled down those others paths to lead me to
where I am today. Without all the business background/experience I have learned, people I have met, successful business decisions I have made, I can incorporate all of that into my journey today.
My whole life I have enjoyed meeting people and learning from them and applying that knowledge to make successful, profitable business decisions. I want to share my passion for the industry with others and help them get excited about Real Estate. My hope is that maybe you will see the experience as something other than a just a “house”. To me, a property is a foster child waiting for that next family to come along and adopt it, clothe it, nurture it and give it life; make it a loving home. “To me that is the definition of “Pride of Ownership.”
